What started as a college project at her kitchen table in 2020 has grown into an award-winning international brand. At just 28, Laura McCarthy has built Drink Botanicals Ireland (DBI) into a leading name in premium dried garnishes and natural-based syrups, supplying retailers, bars, hotels, and restaurants across Ireland, the UK, the US, Europe, the UAE, and Canada. Lauras entrepreneurial journey began at 21 while studying Marketing at Technological University Dublin. With a keen eye for innovation and market trends, Laura transformed DBI into a self-funded, export-driven business, with over 50% of its revenue coming from international markets—the US being a key driver of growth.
Recognising industry challenges, Laura diversified the business during the COVID-19 pandemic to introduce products that tackle issues like fruit waste and the demand for healthier alternatives. Her strategy paid off, with DBI securing a top-three ranking in its category on Amazon US for two consecutive years, solidifying its position in e-commerce. Her leadership and achievements have earned her multiple accolades, including a spot on Ireland’s 30 Under 30 list, representing Dublin City at the National Enterprise Awards in 2024, and being selected for the EY Entrepreneurial Winning Women EMEIA Class of 2024. From a kitchen-table idea to a global success story, Laura continues to drive DBI’s expansion, redefining the drinks industry with innovation, sustainability, and a passion for premium-quality products.
